Overview

CertLister offers three plans: Free, Basic, and Pro. All plans include a public verification page, certificate management, and PDF generation. Paid plans unlock bulk tools, design features, team management, and branding controls.

Best for organizations that need the complete platform.

Everything in Basic, plus:

  • Unlimited certificates, team members, designs, and categories

  • Design asset uploads (upload logos, signatures, and images in the Design Studio)
  • Custom certificate attributes — define domain-specific data fields per category (e.g., Score, Instructor) that appear in PDFs and on the verify page
  • Remove "Powered by CertLister" branding from the verification widget and page
  • Verification analytics (see who verified which certificates)
  • Priority email support

Note: Auto-expiry (automatically flipping certificates to Expired when their date passes) is available on all plans — including Free.


New Plan Features (February 2026)

Four features were added or updated in this release:

Certificate automation — new on Basic & Pro Categories can now automatically send issuance emails to recipients on creation, send expiry reminder emails a configurable number of days before the certificate expires, and flip certificates to Expired automatically when their date passes. Auto-expiry — available on all plans The status auto-flip (Active → Expired) when an expiry date passes is available on every plan, including Free. Only the email components require Basic or Pro.

Embeddable verification widget — now on all plans The verification widget embed (web component and iFrame) is now available on the Free plan. Previously it required Basic or above. All plans can now embed the <certlister-verify> component on their website.

Custom certificate attributes — new Pro feature Pro organizations can define custom data fields on categories (e.g., "Score", "Instructor") and attach per-recipient values to each certificate. Values are printed in PDFs via {{custom.fieldkey}} tokens and displayed in the Additional Details section on the public verify page. Learn more: Custom Certificate Attributes


Free Trial

New organizations start on a 14-day free trial with full Pro-level access — no credit card required. After the trial:

  • If you upgrade, your chosen plan takes effect immediately
  • If you do not upgrade, your account moves to the Free plan automatically

Trial organizations have the "Powered by CertLister" footer hidden (Pro behaviour) during the trial period. It reappears automatically if the account moves to Free or Basic after the trial ends.


Upgrading Your Plan

Admins only.

  1. Go to Settings → Billing or visit https://app.certlister.com/billing
  2. Select the plan you want
  3. Choose monthly or annual billing
  4. You are redirected to Stripe Checkout to enter payment details
  5. After payment, the new plan is active immediately

Upgrading mid-cycle: When upgrading from Basic to Pro, the difference is prorated — you pay only for the remaining days in your billing period.


Downgrading Your Plan

Admins only.

  1. Go to Settings → Billing or visit https://app.certlister.com/billing
  2. Click Change Plan and select a lower plan (or Free)
  3. Your current plan remains active until the end of the billing period
  4. A banner appears in your account showing the scheduled downgrade date with an Undo button
  5. On the downgrade date, your account moves to the new plan automatically

Note: Downgrading does not delete any data. If you exceed the new plan's limits (e.g., more than 1,000 certificates on Basic), existing certificates are retained — but you will not be able to create new ones until you are within the limit again.


Cancelling Your Subscription

  1. Go to Settings → Billing → click Manage Billing to open the Stripe Customer Portal
  2. In the portal, cancel your subscription
  3. Your plan remains active until the end of the paid period, then moves to Free

Alternatively, select Free on the billing page and confirm the cancellation.


Undoing a Pending Change

If you have a scheduled downgrade or cancellation and change your mind:

  1. Go to Settings → Billing
  2. The pending change banner shows the scheduled change and date
  3. Click Undo to revert the change and keep your current plan

Billing Management via Stripe Portal

For payment method updates, invoice downloads, and billing history:

  1. Go to Settings → Billing
  2. Click Manage Billing (Admin only)
  3. You are redirected to the Stripe Customer Portal
  4. After making changes, click Return to CertLister

CertLister automatically syncs your billing state when you return from the portal.


Usage Tracking

You can see your current usage at any time:

  1. Go to Settings → Billing
  2. The Usage section shows bars for certificates, team members, saved designs, and categories
  3. Usage chips also appear in the page headers of Certificates and Categories (amber at 75%, red at 90%)

"Powered by CertLister" Branding

The embeddable widget and public verify page include a small "Powered by CertLister" footer on Free and Basic plans. This is removed automatically on Pro.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I switch between monthly and annual billing?

A: Contact support at support@certlister.com to switch billing cycles. Annual billing saves approximately 20% compared to monthly.


Q: Is there a refund policy?

A: Contact support@certlister.com for billing questions. Refund requests are handled on a case-by-case basis.


Q: What payment methods are accepted?

A: Major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) via Stripe. Additional payment methods depend on your region.


Q: What happens to my data if I cancel?

A: Your data is retained. You can still access your certificates on the Free plan within the Free plan limits. Data is only deleted if you explicitly delete your account.


Q: Can I have multiple organizations under one account?

A: Not currently. Each CertLister account is tied to one organization.


Q: Do custom attributes (Pro) remain accessible after a downgrade?

A: The stored values remain in the database but are not displayed on the verify page or accessible in the Custom Fields dialog on non-Pro plans. Values are restored automatically if you upgrade back to Pro.
